Pablo Picasso (1881-1973)
'Factory, Horta de Ebbo', 1909 (oil on canvas)
The Definition
A nonobjective school of painting and sculpture developed in Paris in the early
20th century. Cubism is characterized by the reduction and fragmentation of natural forms
into abstract, often geometric structures usually rendered as a set of discrete
planes. Artists that worked with this style are Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso.
This relates to my appropriation project because I focus on geometric shapes and find it useful when thinking about my final.
The image above makes me think about my abstraction and how I can incorporate sound, making the image more interesting.
The colors here are also bold and hypnotizing.
